Mike Owsley offers training for education board
by Mandy Hicks
ELPO Attorney Michael Owsley will be presenting a training session for the Logan County (Kentucky) Board of Education. Mike has extensive experience in education law and, along with other attorneys from ELPO, regularly provides training for school boards, administrators and teachers.
The training will concentrate in the areas of confidentiality, investigations and evaluation plans.
School districts need specialized legal counsel, Mike says, because representing a school district calls for balancing traditional employment law with Kentucky laws that apply to teachers and school administrators exclusively. Mike’s challenge is to stay on top of all of those laws, including employment, schools and First Amendment issues that pertain to both the students and staff within a school district. Providing training is part of what he does to help ELPO’s clients stay updated on the law.
