Overview

Since entering the practice of law a decade ago, Kyle Roby has become a fierce advocate for his clients. From car accidents to truck wrecks to defending doctors and nurses, he has earned the trust of hundreds of clients. “My job is to treat every single client with the dignity and respect they deserve, as if they are my only client,” Kyle says. “There’s nothing more important to me than keeping them informed of proceedings and ensuring that they always know where their case stands.”

Through Kyle’s extensive experience with car and truck accidents, he has a roster of experts at his disposal who can help him illustrate the injuries sustained in an accident to the court. He works with accident reconstructionists who use drones to create a video that shows the impact, and physicians who can testify about the injuries the client sustained. He is accustomed to battling with insurance companies, when necessary, to be sure everything that is due to a client is paid.

Kyle credits serving as a defense attorney for nurses, doctors and medical facilities as key to the success of his career in personal injury law. In the course of that work, he has learned much about medical records, and has used that knowledge to assist personal injury plaintiffs. “Medical records are complicated and can be difficult to decipher,” Kyle says. “Knowing what to look for and who to ask is key in proving your case to a jury.”

Kyle knows the laws and regulations that govern the tractor-trailer and commercial motor vehicles, namely those imposed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. He knows the number of hours a truck driver is permitted to be behind the wheel without a break, and what the law says about weight and height restrictions of trucks – and much, much more. This knowledge has become the backbone of his work with those injured in truck accidents, which can often have catastrophic consequences. “Large trucks are heavily regulated because they are difficult to maneuver and especially treacherous when they suddenly change lanes or have to come to a stop,” Roby says.

While some of Kyle’s cases have settled out of court, he has tried several cases in Kentucky courts and handled related appeals. He’s comfortable in front of a judge and jury. “For many clients, facing a courtroom is daunting,” Kyle says. “But for me, it’s all in a day’s work, and honestly, one of the places I feel most comfortable. I’m ready to go to court if necessary for every client.”

Kyle’s love of the law and courtrooms started in Owensboro, Kentucky, where he was born and raised. He completed a two-week course held by the Owensboro Bar Association as a young student. Attorneys showcased how they handled cases, and taught him about how courts work.

What made an impression on Kyle was how well attorneys worked with people. He saw the law as a public service, and wanted to be part of it. “That’s really what drove me towards practicing law,” Kyle said. “I saw a way to help people solve problems. A good attorney can resolve issues, or, optimally, prevent them.”

Kyle says he was attracted to ELPO because the firm was well-known and established. “The thing that drew me was its reputation,” Kyle says. “It’s the preeminent law firm in Western Kentucky. The firm is very family oriented. It’s nice to have that dynamic in a law firm. ELPO allows the attorneys and staff opportunities to do community service and be involved in charitable causes.”

Kyle is married, has a son and lives in Bowling Green.
