Kate E. Payton has joined the law firm of English, Lucas, Priest & Owsley, LLP (ELPO Law) as Senior Counsel effective July 15, 2024.

Prior to joining ELPO Law as senior counsel, she served as an associate attorney for Broderick & Davenport, PLLC and most recently as a staff attorney for Warren Circuit Family Court Judge David A. Lanphear. While primarily practicing in general civil litigation, Kate is enthusiastic about advocating for her clients and consistently delivering exceptional client service.

A Hart County, Kentucky native, Payton graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. She then continued her pursuit of becoming an attorney at the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, earning her J.D. in 2015. During law school, she worked as a student extern for the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy and was selected to participate in the Kentucky Innocence Project. Both provided invaluable experience in preparing and drafting pleadings, assisting with trial preparation, and engaging with clients.

“Kate is a skilled litigator with years of experience advocating for her clients,” says ELPO Law managing partner, Bob Young. “Along with her integrity and professionalism, she brings a valuable skill set that will be an asset to our firm as we continue to grow. We are thrilled to welcome her to the ELPO Law team.”

Payton believes it is her duty as an attorney to try and ease her client’s stress as best she can by providing accurate, transparent, and honest legal representation. She looks forward to collaborating with the team of attorneys at ELPO Law and continuing to grow her law practice. Kate and her husband, Ray, live in Bowling Green with their two young children.
