ELPO raises record amount for Relay for Life
by Mandy Hicks
Each year, ELPO raises funds for Relay for Life. We’re thrilled to announce that our staff, supporters, donors and attorneys hit a new record this year, raising $8,275.42 through fundraisers throughout the year.
Nicole Slaughter, who co-chaired this year’s Relay for Life efforts with Angela Van Cleave, noted that ELPO has raised $36,009.51 total during the past five years. This year, there were 89 relay teams in Warren County, and ELPO ranked eighth in funds raised out of all of those teams. More than 30 people came out for the Relay for Life event in June.
“This is ELPO’s largest fundraiser, and we’re thrilled to have such strong participation,” Nicole says. “Not only did people write checks, but they created baskets for our annual Valentine silent auction, cooked for our baked goods and breakfast sales, they wrapped presents at Christmas, they knit blankets for our raffle and on the night of Relay, they walked. Almost everyone has been touched by cancer in some way, so raising money for this cause is personal for us.”
About Relay for Life
Relay for Life is an annual, overnight team walking event that benefits the American Cancer Society. In Bowling Green, the walk typically takes place the first Saturday in June at Bowling Green High School. Participants walk around a track in relay fashion. Food, games and activities provide entertainment and build camaraderie, and children are welcome. This year’s walk was on June 7. For more information on Relay for Life of Warren County, go here.
