Bowling Green-Based Law Firm English, Lucas, Priest & Owsley Joins Meritas Global Alliance of Independent Business Law Firms

English, Lucas, Priest & Owsley (ELPO Law) announced today that it has been invited to join Meritas, a global alliance of independent business law firms. The firm was selected based on its long-standing reputation of proving high-quality legal services to the Kentucky market since 1973. The affiliation gives ELPO Law access to nearly 7,500 lawyers in 259 markets worldwide. As part of Meritas, ELPO Law can provide clients with business and legal counsel across borders, with the convenience of working with the law firm’s Bowling Green office.

“Companies in our market are increasingly doing business internationally; seamless legal representation on a global scale is vital,” said Bob Young, managing partner of ELPO Law. “Through Meritas, we are able to offer our clients in-depth knowledge of cultural and jurisdictional issues in all major markets around the U.S. and world. Meritas offers us peace of mind that our clients’ legal needs will be met with the same commitment to quality, professionalism and value on which we pride ourselves.”

Young adds that the firm had been seeking a proven yet innovative way to tap into global legal expertise, which is important for companies based outside Kentucky who do business in such locally strong industries as tobacco and corn, livestock and distilled products. “Meritas has significant experience in global trade. Our member law firms throughout the world have clients who need counsel on the manufacture, import and export of products we know well. 191 Meritas firms can now call on ELPO Law to provide expertise in these areas for their clients, which in turn benefits our local economy.”

“Members join Meritas to help their clients increase efficiencies when navigating global opportunities and challenges,” said Tanna Moore, president and CEO of Meritas. “In-house counsel at companies that are growing globally are under increased pressure to find trusted resources in specific markets that are experienced, cost-effective and able to build strong relationships with them. This personal touch is becoming more important in the age of law firm mergers and mega firms.”

ELPO Law makes this announcement alongside the McBrayer law firm which has offices located in Lexington and Louisville. Currently, ELPO Law and McBrayer will serve as the only two Kentucky affiliates for the Meritas legal alliance.

Meritas is the only law firm alliance with established quality standards for admitting and retaining member law firms. Meritas membership is extended by invitation only, and firms are regularly assessed for the breadth of their practice expertise and client satisfaction. Only firms performing under the tenets of Meritas’ unique Quality Assurance Program are recertified as members. This ensures that clients receive the same high-quality legal work and service from every Meritas firm.
