Buzz English serves as moderator on Kentucky Chamber panel
by Mandy Hicks
The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce‘s Legislative Preview conference on December 19 highlighted an important item on the agenda for the legislature this coming session: education.
Buzz English, partner at ELPO and vice chair of education and workforce development for the Chamber, served as moderator of a panel discussion on this topic at the Legislative Preview conference. Brad Montell, Deputy Secretary of Education and Workforce Development, Rep. John “Bam” Carney and Sen. Steve West served on the panel and answered a variety of questions about the upcoming legislative session, which is a short session that starts in January.
Preparing today’s students for current jobs was the focus of the discussion. Panel members indicated they see funding charter schools in Kentucky as key to doing this, but the details of how charter schools might operate have not been considered yet. Decisions that would have to be made include who would authorize the schools, what certification schools would have and what kind of assessments students and schools would be given.
Buzz English serves as a member of the Kentucky Chamber’s Board of Directors and serves on its Executive Committee.
