Attorney Bob Young to speak on Medical Malpractice in Barren County
by Mandy Hicks
Medical malpractice law has changed dramatically in the past decade, and most recently, with the addition of Medical Review panels in Kentucky. Attorney Bob Young, who has practiced both plaintiffs’ and defense medical malpractice law, will give an overview of the changes to the law in Kentucky at a meeting of the Barren County Bar Association later this week.
“As medicine has changed, so has the practice of law surrounding it,” Bob says. “Even if you aren’t actively practicing medical malpractice law, it’s important to understand the changes to the law, as it impacts many other areas of practice.”
Medical Review Panels were enacted into law in 2017. The panels review cases to determine if malpractice occurred before a case can proceed in the court system. Bob will explain how the panels have worked so far, and what the future may hold for the panels. He will also discuss significant medical malpractice cases in Barren County as well as elsewhere in Southcentral Kentucky. Bob notes that he has been involved in four of the seven medical malpractice cases that went to trial in Barren County in the past two decades.
