Adoption reception honors families who provided loving homes for children
by Mandy Hicks
ELPO family law attorney Rebecca Simpson recently participated in several events that recognized November as National Adoption Month, and ELPO sponsored a reception honoring families that have adopted children out of foster care.
The Family Enrichment Center in Bowling Green recently organized an Adoption and Fostering Info Fair, which provided a way for prospective foster families and those who may wish to adopt to ask questions of agencies, organizations and businesses. Families also connected with others who have gone through the adoption process.
Rebecca attended and was one of the speakers on a panel that discussed the adoption process. “Adoption is a wonderful way to expand your family,” says Rebecca Simpson, who has practiced in family law for 18 years. “It is a thrill as an attorney to help a family give a child a loving home and see the ways in which the child grows and changes, and the ways in which the family shifts and grows in love to help this child find their place in the world.”
Family Enrichment Center is a non-profit organization that helps prevent child abuse by offering services to families, including support of families in the foster program and adoption process.
The adoption reception was held Nov. 7. ELPO sponsored the reception, and Rebecca attended.
National Adoption Month is an initiative sponsored by the Children’s Bureau, in partnership with AdoptUSKids and Child Welfare Information Gateway. Each November, National Adoption Month brings awareness to the needs of children and youth seeking and waiting a “forever family.” This year’s theme, “Teens Need Families, No Matter What,” centers on building an effective response system that will support efforts to achieve lasting permanency for teenagers in foster care.
