United Way of Southern Kentucky honors Buzz English
by Mandy Hicks
Attorney Buzz English is one of 60 heroes being honored by United Way of Southern Kentucky this year as part of its 60th anniversary celebration. Buzz will be honored at a reception on Sept. 15.
In announcing the plan to honor heroes, United Way of Southern Kentucky said it was choosing heroes based on their impact on the community. A press release from United Way said:
A hero can been defined as “a person of distinguished courage, admired for combating adversity through impressive feats of ingenuity, bravery or strength, often sacrificing his or her own personal concerns for some greater good.” With this definition in mind, United Way would like to honor the following as its 60 Heroes. Their passion, dedication, and commitment has left its mark on United Way of Southern Kentucky… simply put, if not for their influence, United Way would not have the impact on our community that is does today.
Buzz is a long-time community volunteer and accomplished attorney. He has served as President of the Kentucky Bar Association and also of the United Way of Southern Kentucky. In 2010, he was presented with the Public Advocate Award by the Kentucky Public Advocacy Commission. He has also served as a director on the board of United Way of Kentucky and the Shaker Museum, and currently serves on the board of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. ELPO managing partner Gaines Penn said Buzz represents the firm and Kentucky well. “Buzz’s continued dedication to causes in Kentucky and more specifically in our community demonstrates his strength of character and his strong work ethic,” Gaines said. “When Buzz joins a board, he expects to fully participate and contribute, often going above and beyond what anyone would expect of a volunteer. His work has strengthened many organizations in the community and we’re always proud to have him represent ELPO.”
