ELPO honored by WKU for legacy of support
by Mandy Hicks
On August 27, ELPO will be honored by Western Kentucky University‘s Cupola Society, which recognizes long-time donors to WKU. The firm is being honored for 40 years of consecutive support.
Attorney Mike Owsley will represent the firm at the event, which will be held at Knicely Conference Center at WKU. The event includes a brunch, and also honors members of the Society of 1906, which is those who have included a gift to WKU in their will or estate plan.
The Cupola Society exists to recognize long-term donors, no matter the size of the gift, and to bring distinction to those individuals who support WKU through sustained annual giving. Special recognition is given at the brunch to members achieving milestones of 20, 30, 40 and 50 years of consecutive giving.
The causes ELPO has supported at WKU are:
- Athletics: Hilltopper Athletic Foundation, Jack and Jackie Harbaugh Stadium Club, E. A. Diddle Arena Luxury Suites and men’s basketball program
- Academics: Charles E. English Endowment for Debate, Michael A. Owsley Fund for Excellence in Mock Trial, Department of Communications, Department of Marketing and Department of Chemistry
- Scholarship funds: Floyd H. Ellis – Warren Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation Scholarship Fund, John Desmarais Scholarship Fund and the James Griffith Hines Scholarship
- History, literature and the arts: Kentucky Museum, Southern Kentucky Book Fest, The Symphony at WKU and Kaleidoscope Youth in Arts
- Clinical education: Suzanne Vitale Clinical Education Complex
- Media: WKU Public Radio and WKYU PBS
- Libraries: Law Library and Manuscripts and Archives
“Supporting WKU is supporting Bowling Green,” said D. Gaines Penn, managing partner at ELPO. “Western Kentucky brings incredible opportunities to our community and provides vitality. We can’t imagine Bowling Green without WKU, and wouldn’t want to. We are happy to support the university.”
