The Volunteer Investment Award was presented to ELPO by United Way of Southern Kentucky.

The United Way of Southern Kentucky presented ELPO with the Volunteer Investment Award at its annual Live United Awards.

The event was held on January 29, 2015, at the at the Western Kentucky University Augenstein Alumni Center in Bowling Green. The United Way of Southern Kentucky gave out 42 awards to businesses, non-profits and individuals in Allen, Barren, Butler, Logan, Simpson and Warren counties.

The Volunteer Investment Award is presented to the top organizations with the largest percentage of employees volunteering in multiple United Way functions, including committees, campaigns and board of directors. ELPO regularly assists with the Feed the Need food drive, set for March 6 and 7 this year, and the Give a Day volunteer effort in the summer. ELPO attorneys and staff volunteer in other ways as well. Attorney Kenly Ames serves on the board of directors and Travis Armstrong, firm administrator, serves on the allocations steering committee of the United Way of Southern Kentucky.

“ELPO has a long history of involvement with United Way of Southern Kentucky,” says Gaines Penn, managing partner of ELPO. “United Way does so much good in our communities with stocking food pantries, helping organizations that provide coats when it’s cold and funding organizations that provide books to children. Our community is better because of United Way and the many organizations it supports.”

At the dinner, the United Way also announced that the 2014-2015 campaign broke the $2 million mark. The organization says this is the first time since 2007 that has happened. The funding will be enough money to provide more than 60,000 services to people in our community who need help.
