Aaron Smith ends term as local bar President

Aaron Smith, an attorney and partner at ELPO, ended his term as President of the Bowling Green-Warren County Bar Association today. Lindsay Hinton, a fellow Bowling Green attorney who previously served as vice president, is now serving as President.
Aaron will remain an officer on the board for another year as past president. Other new officers are:
Dov Moore (vice president)
Deborah Wilkins (treasurer)
Ryan Reed (secretary)
The Bar association had a successful 2013. Creating another highly successful Law Day program was among the accomplishments. Aaron Smith presided over the event, which had the theme “Realizing the Dream.” The keynote speaker was Judge Danny Boggs of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. The circuit covers Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio and Michigan. Boggs spoke to the crowd about the importance of the judiciary applying the law, not “doing justice.” Boggs emphasized that the backbone of our legal system is the law itself, not the judges who administer it. The role of doing justice belongs to those who make the laws, Boggs said. (More about Law Day can be found here.)
The Bowling Green-Warren County Bar Association’s Law Day program was chosen as the best in the state by the Kentucky Bar Association.
The bar association also donated $5,000 to various charitable organizations in the area, and coordinated a day for attorneys to volunteer time as bell-ringers for The Salvation Army during the holiday season. The bar association offered several free Continuing Legal Education programs to members, and coordinated many social events.
“Our bar association is one of the most active, professional associations in Kentucky,” Aaron says. “As a bar association president, I have had strong support from a board and membership who are willing to roll up their sleeves and pitch in when it comes time to plan events or raise funds for non-profits. This is a hard-working group and I’m proud of what we did collectively in 2013.”
