ELPO LAW ATTORNEY JOYE BETH SPINKS NAMED SECOND DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE FOR KBA YOUNG LAWYERS DIVISION

ELPO Law attorney Joye Beth Spinks has been named the Second District Representative for the Kentucky Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division.
Membership in the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the Kentucky Bar Association (KBA) is open to all KBA members age 40 and under and all KBA members who have practiced law 10 years or less regardless of age. The YLD is dedicated to using their unique talents as attorneys to better the community at large. The YLD engages in on-going public service projects and works with numerous other organizations to sponsor community service projects. As the Second District Representative for the YLD of the KBA, Joye Beth will act as the representative for young lawyers in her Supreme Court District, serve as Co-Chair of the YLD’s Membership Committee, coordinate Legal Food Frenzy efforts in her district, host at least one social event for young lawyers in her district, and serve as Chair of the Second District Council. The Second District of the YLD includes Barren, Breckenridge, Bullitt, Daviess, Grayson, Hancock, Hardin, Hart, Henderson, LaRue, Meade, Ohio, Union, and Warren Counties.
Joye Beth grew up in rural Kentucky outside of Bowling Green, graduating from Western Kentucky University with a degree in biology and science education. She was hired to teach at Ohio County High School in Beaver Dam, Kentucky where she taught environmental science and biology to high school students for four years. She left teaching to attend Boston University School of Law and currently practices Environmental Law and Civil Litigation at English, Lucas, Priest & Owsley, LLP (ELPO Law) in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She keeps connected to her roots as a teacher by serving on the Board of Directors for the Stuff the Bus Foundation of Southern Kentucky, a non-profit that provides grants to teachers and schools to help level the playing field for students in this region.
Joye Beth decided to run for this position because she believes that the way we collectively advance our organizations and profession is to focus on building strong community connections. She recognizes that this has been harder than ever over the last year, leaving many attorneys in our Commonwealth feeling isolated and overwhelmed while navigating a legal landscape that is different from what was previously expected. She wants to be a part of finding solutions to help attorneys connect with each other in meaningful ways to make the profession better for young lawyers as well as for future generations of Kentucky lawyers.
Joye Beth has been a part of community-building efforts for several years, from helping to build a new chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta at WKU, to leading orientation programs in law school encouraging first year students to have meaningful conversations around topics like class, race, and gender and their intersection with the legal profession. Additionally, ELPO Law has a long history of participating in KBA leadership, giving Joye Beth a network of support and resources to pull from to generate ideas and form connections to better serve the Second District. Joye Beth’s prior experience and existing network will help her serve this district effectively as the representative to the KBA YLD.
